According to information obtained by Jez Corden, executive editor of technology news site Windows Central, development of the Fallout series as a whole, including Fallout 5, has been moved forward with ZeniMax Online's new MMORPG Blackbird following its cancellation.

As Corden points out, MMOs like Blackbird are expensive to develop and compete with existing games like World of Warcraft and ZeniMax's own The Elder Scrolls Online . 'From what I've heard, the decision was between spending a ton of money on Blackbird to grow it to a point where it could compete with other titles, or taking that investment and putting it back into developing Fallout 5,' Corden said.
However, Corden cautions that there isn't enough information about Fallout 5 or its developer to take the information with a pinch of salt.

The Fallout series has been gaining attention thanks in part to the success of the live-action TV series , with season two of the series reportedly 'in the midst of filming,' and a remaster of the previous game, Fallout 3 , also in the works .
