In June 2025, xAI will launch a $5 billion bond offering through Morgan Stanley, of which SpaceX will underwrite $2 billion, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Both xAI and SpaceX were founded by Elon Musk, who has previously used SpaceX to expand his business into other areas.
For example, Musk personally borrowed $20 million from SpaceX to support the early days of electric vehicle maker Tesla, and tunnel digger The Boring Company dug its first tunnel beneath SpaceX.

When Musk acquired Twitter, he received a $1 billion loan from SpaceX. This money was quickly repaid.

SpaceX has already introduced xAI's chatbot, Grok, for Starlink customer service, and further collaborations are planned.
On the other hand, SpaceX has had three consecutive rocket launch failures and an explosion during an engine test in recent years, and the Wall Street Journal points out that investing in xAI could pose risks.
