The Online Safety Act would 'impose new safety obligations on social media companies, search engines, messaging, gaming apps, dating apps, pornography sites and file-sharing sites' and require online platforms to take specific measures to reduce the risk of children being exposed to harmful content.
In line with the end of July 2025, when part of the law comes into effect, Bluesky has announced its plans to add an age verification feature for UK users.
Age verification will be done through Epic Games' Kids Web Services , and players will be able to choose between payment card authentication, ID scanning, or face scanning.

Users under the age of 18 or those who do not wish to verify their age will have limited access to adult content and will be unable to use features such as direct messaging.
UK users will be notified when the update is applied.
The age verification procedure looks like this. If there are no problems, the verification process itself will take just a few minutes.

A menu will also be added to report inappropriate content.

Bluesky says it will continue to consider what it can do to protect children from undesirable content and what improvements it can make.
