Pantech was a company that operated as a mobile phone manufacturer, and once sold feature phones (so-called Galakei) in Japan. In the 2010s, it also developed smartphones.

Pantech filed a lawsuit in the Tokyo District Court alleging that Google was infringing its standard essential patents (SEPs). Specifically, the court claimed that Google was infringing its patent for 'signal control mapping technology for acknowledgement signals (ACK) in LTE networks.' The Tokyo District Court accepted Pantech's argument and ordered Google to stop selling the Pixel 7 series.

The Pixel 7 series is scheduled to be released in October 2022, and at the time of writing, sales by Google have already ended. For this reason, the impact of this sales suspension order is expected to be minor.

Pantech has made similar claims about the Pixel 8 and Pixel 9 series, and has already filed a lawsuit in the Tokyo District Court.
