YouTube CEO Neal Mohan attended the 2025 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity and delivered the keynote speech.
During the speech, CEO Mohan mentioned, 'AI is another important way creators are showing us what the future holds.' He then announced that Google's video generation AI, Veo 3, will be integrated into YouTube Shorts in the second half of summer 2025. 'We believe that AI tools like Veo 3 will open up new creative avenues that anyone can explore,' said CEO Mohan.
Mohan added, 'For example, language is one of the biggest barriers to reaching a global audience. YouTube's auto-dubbing feature already translates videos into nine languages, with 11 more coming soon, exponentially increasing the potential audience that creators and brands can reach. In the six months since creators started using the feature, more than 20 million videos have already been dubbed using AI. The possibilities with AI are endless.' He pointed out that AI tools can unlock even more possibilities for YouTube creators.
YouTube already uses Veo in its Dream Screen background generation tool, but the newly integrated Veo 3 is a more powerful video generation AI.
The types of videos that can be generated with Veo 3 are as follows:

He holds a pipe in one hand and points over the ship's railing at the raging gray sea. He says, 'The sea is powerful, wild, and uncontrollable. And every time the light shines through it, it inspires you with awe.''

YouTube Shorts has become indispensable to compete with short video platforms such as TikTok and Instagram Reels. YouTube launched YouTube Shorts in 2021, and according to CEO Mohan, YouTube Shorts recorded an average of more than 200 billion views per day at the time of the keynote speech. As of March 2024, the average number of views of YouTube Shorts was 70 billion, which means that the number of daily video views has increased by 186% in just over a year.
Starting from the end of March 2025, YouTube Shorts will change the way views are counted so that a video will be counted as one view if it is displayed even for a moment.
