Homepage creation service Wix acquires AI-based no-coding app development platform 'Base44' for approximately 12 billion yen



On June 18, 2025, Israel-based website creation service Wix announced that it had acquired another Israeli startup, Base44 , for $80 million (approximately 11.6 billion yen). Base44 provides a platform for programming using AI, allowing users to create applications and software using natural language instructions, even without coding knowledge.

Base44 is a startup founded by Israeli Maor Shlomo after he completed his long-term military service at the end of 2024. Base44 provides a conversational interface that automates technical backend tasks such as database creation, permission settings, and deployment, allowing users to create applications without any coding knowledge.

Base44 has attracted attention as a startup that uses AI to program in natural language, and despite being a small company with only six employees, it has gained more than 100,000 users just a few months after its release. About half of its users are from the United States, and a quarter are from Israel. In a June 2025 LinkedIn post , Shlomo reported that Base44 had made a profit of $189,000 (about 27 million yen).

On June 18, it was announced that Base44 had been acquired by website creation service Wix for an initial payment of $80 million, with additional payments due if certain performance indicators are met through 2029.

'Wix is the perfect partner for Base44. This sounds like a cliché line every founder says when getting acquired, but I truly believe it's 100% true in this case. We share the same product category, vision, DNA and customer obsession. Given all this, the decision to join forces with Wix was easier than we expected,' Shlomo said in a post on X.



Wix claims the acquisition will strengthen its AI portfolio, expanding its 'set of intelligent solutions to empower anyone to build and grow online.'
