A passkey is an authentication method that grants access by implementing fingerprint, facial recognition, PIN authentication, etc. on the device.
Facebook says it plans to introduce Passkey to its mobile apps 'soon,' and to Messenger within the next few months.

The passkey can be used not only to log in to Facebook, but also when using Meta's payment service 'Meta Pay' and when logging in to and backing up Messenger.

According to Meta, you may be prompted to set a passkey when logging in to Facebook. Meta states, 'You can easily set and manage your passkey in the Account Center.'
In addition, Meta explained that Passkeys 'provide improved security compared to traditional passwords and one-time SMS codes. They are resistant to guessing and theft from malicious websites and fraudulent links, making them effective against phishing and password spray attacks. Using Passkeys provides better protection from online threats and simplifies the login experience.'
