Amazon Prime Video advertising doubles since launch



Amazon Prime Video has introduced a system in which ads are played when watching content since January 2024. Amazon initially explained that the length of ads would be two to three and a half minutes per hour, but according to Adweek, which covers advertising news, this has doubled to four to six minutes per hour.

However, Adweek confirmed that Amazon had sent emails to six advertisers saying that 'Prime Video ads are increasing to four to six minutes per hour.' Amazon has previously made clear its intention to increase advertising on Prime Video.

The email was sent in June 2025 and notified investors about the increased advertising, but not users.

Ad-supported plans for streaming services are becoming quite common, with a January 2025 survey reporting that advertising was included in 2.6% of Netflix's viewing time.

When contacted, an Amazon advertising representative did not directly comment on the increase in the number of ads, but said, 'Our mission is not to simply increase the number of ads you see, but to improve the ad experience.'
