In the embedded video below, posted to X, you can see Tesla's self-driving taxi driving on the road.

A black car is entering an intersection. The car appears to be a Tesla Model Y. There is no one in the driver's seat, but there appears to be someone in the passenger seat.

He waits for two women to cross the intersection, then turns left slowly with his blinker on.

On the side of the vehicle, the word 'ROBOTAXI' was written in angular font.

Citing a post responding to the video, Musk commented, 'It's a beautiful, simple design.'

According to Musk, the robotaxi is a Tesla vehicle that comes straight from the factory, with no special modifications. 'That means every Tesla that leaves our factory is capable of unsupervised self-driving!' Musk said.

Later, in response to a reply from X user asking, 'When will the first public rides begin? Everyone is so excited about this short video posted today lol,' Musk replied, 'Tentatively June 22nd. The date may change because we're very concerned about safety. The first Tesla car that drives itself from the factory production line to a customer's home will be available on June 28th.'

Tesla has said that by January 2025, vehicles produced in its factories will be able to drive themselves to designated loading docks without human intervention.

According to Musk, speaking to CNBC journalist David Faber , Tesla will start with a very small fleet of 10 to 20 robotaxis. These robotaxis will be equipped with an unsupervised version of Tesla's self-driving technology, Full Self-Driving (FSD), and the Model Y will be used for testing.

News production company NBC News points out that Tesla is trying to compete with Google's sister company Waymo , which already operates its self-driving taxi 'Waymo One' in Phoenix, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Austin in the United States, and plans to roll out Waymo One in Atlanta, Miami and Washington DC in 2026.

Waymo is expanding its self-driving car manufacturing plants in the US and is reportedly on track to more than double the number of robotaxis in operation by 2026.
