According to X, the eight people posted fake content to falsify engagement metrics in an attempt to unfairly inflate their revenue.
The lawsuit also alleges that the eight individuals involved in the lawsuit used bots and scripts to manipulate the engagement metrics of other major social media platforms, and that they used the identity cards of U.S. citizens, some of which were stolen.
X said, 'This type of misconduct will not be tolerated, and we will act forcefully to protect the integrity of X, no matter where bad actors reside. Addressing this behavior is essential to maintaining trust in X and ensuring that our revenue share program delivers revenue to valued creators.'
Before October 2024, X's revenue sharing program was based on 'how many times X Premium users viewed ads displayed in replies to posts by users who participated in the program.' However, in October 2024, it will be changed to be determined by 'how many times X Premium users replied to, reposted, or liked posts by users who participated in the program.'
