Telegram announces $400 million deal with xAI to integrate Grok, Elon Musk claims 'deal never happened'



Telegram , a messaging app that boasts a wide range of features and high security, has announced a partnership with Elon Musk's AI company xAI . The partnership will see xAI's chatbot Grok integrated into the Telegram app, but Musk claims that the deal has not been finalized.

On May 28, 2025, Telegram founder and CEO Pavel Durov announced on his X account, 'This summer, Telegram users will have access to the best AI technology on the market. Elon Musk and I have agreed to a one-year partnership agreement to integrate xAI's chatbot, Grok, into all Telegram apps to provide it to more than 1 billion users. This will also strengthen Telegram's financial position. In addition to receiving $300 million in cash and stock from xAI, we will receive 50% of the revenue from xAI subscriptions sold via Telegram. Together we can win,' announcing that Grok will be integrated into all Telegram apps.




Meanwhile, Musk responded to Durov's post by saying, 'The deal is not done.'




xAI released Grok for Telegram premium users in March 2025. However, if this partnership agreement is realized, Grok will be available to all Telegram users in the future.




The Telegram integration of Grok can be pinned to the top of the chat list within the app, and users can ask Grok any time via the search bar. Meta has also integrated its own chatbot, Meta AI, into the search bar of Instagram and WhatsApp, so Telegram is following suit.

With Grok integrated into Telegram, you can write text, summarize chat links and documents, create your own stickers, and more. Telegram explains that Grok will also help companies answer questions and assist with moderation.
