Square, a payment system founded by Twitter founder Jack Dorsey and also available in Japan, now supports Bitcoin payments

Block, the company that operates Square, announced on May 27, 2025 that Square will accept Bitcoin payments and will hold a trial event at the event 'Bitcoin 2025' to be held in Las Vegas on the same day.

When Bitcoin payments are officially introduced, Square will check the exchange rate in real time at the time of payment and process the payment, allowing users to pay with Bitcoin 'almost instantly.'

'Merchants who receive payment in Bitcoin can choose to hold the Bitcoin or have it automatically converted to fiat in real time,' Block CEO Jack Dorsey said.

However, it is unclear whether Japan will also support Bitcoin payments. Block reports that 'Bitcoin payments are expected to be launched in the second half of 2025 and, subject to regulatory approval, will be available to all eligible merchants in 2026.'
