Square, a payment system founded by Twitter founder Jack Dorsey and also available in Japan, now supports Bitcoin payments

It has been discovered that the payment system Square will begin accepting Bitcoin payments. This is expected to be implemented in the second half of 2025 or later.
Block - Block to roll out bitcoin payments on Square
Block, the company that operates Square, announced on May 27, 2025 that Square will accept Bitcoin payments and will hold a trial event at the event 'Bitcoin 2025' to be held in Las Vegas on the same day.
When Bitcoin payments are officially introduced, Square will check the exchange rate in real time at the time of payment and process the payment, allowing users to pay with Bitcoin 'almost instantly.'
'Merchants who receive payment in Bitcoin can choose to hold the Bitcoin or have it automatically converted to fiat in real time,' Block CEO Jack Dorsey said.

However, it is unclear whether Japan will also support Bitcoin payments. Block reports that 'Bitcoin payments are expected to be launched in the second half of 2025 and, subject to regulatory approval, will be available to all eligible merchants in 2026.'
'We've long been advocates of Bitcoin and are focused on making it more accessible and usable in everyday life. Bringing the Bitcoin experience to millions of merchants brings us one step closer to that goal,' said Miles Suter, Bitcoin Product Lead at Block. 'When coffee shops and retail stores can accept Bitcoin through Square, they can get paid faster and keep more of their revenue.'
