Discord may reportedly introduce AI to help keep up with conversations

If you're part of an active Discord server, you may have felt left behind because you couldn't keep up with the chat flow. Discord is considering introducing a conversation summary feature to help in such cases, according to an interview with an executive.

Discord, which celebrated its 10th anniversary in May 2025, continues to expand as a highly influential community, especially among gamers, but as it grows, the problem of it being difficult to keep up with the speed of real-time conversations is becoming more and more apparent.

Discord is aware of this, with Discord's senior vice president of product Peter Celis telling The Verge, 'This is a problem we want to solve. We don't want to let this knowledge base just get buried inside Discord.'

One of the solutions Discord is working on is adding features like forums that make it easier to share information, and another is the introduction of Large Machine Language Models (LLMs).

'There's now incredible potential in LLM and its conversation summarization capabilities,' Celis said. 'This will allow Discord to take long, multi-person conversations and turn them into something that's more shareable and more web-ready.'

At present, it is not possible to reveal details about what specific features the feature will entail, and there is no solid schedule for when it will be introduced, but the developers say that they are aware of the problem of it being difficult to access knowledge within Discord from outside of Discord.

Also, 90% of all activity on Discord is on small servers, so meeting the needs of both large community servers and smaller servers is 'one of our biggest challenges and our biggest opportunity,' Celis said.

On top of that, Celes commented on the future of Discord and the gaming community: 'By using Discord as a social layer for any game, we can increase engagement, sociality, and multiplayer in games. We love the power of Discord and want to be proactive about it.'
