In August 2024, a federal grand jury indicted former DoorDash delivery driver Saii Chaitanya Reddy Devagiri and three others on wire fraud conspiracy charges for stealing more than $2.5 million from DoorDash. Devagiri and the three others pleaded guilty in federal court on May 13, 2025.
Here's how Devagiri and others fraudulently stole money from DoorDash:
1: Placing high-value orders from fraudulent customer accounts on the DoorDash app.
2) Manually assigning orders to driver accounts created by Devagiri and other parties using DoorDash employee credentials.
3: Marking an assigned delivery as 'order completed' even though the delivery has not actually been delivered.
4: This will earn you delivery rewards.
5: Return the same order to 'Processing' and repeat steps 2 to 4.

The U.S. Attorney's Office noted that Devagiri and others committed wire fraud 'in less than five minutes, involving hundreds of repeated orders.'
By pleading guilty to the wire fraud conspiracy charge, Devagiri faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. Devagiri and others are scheduled for a status hearing in September 2025.

According to information released by prosecutors in October 2024, Tyler Thomas Bottenhorn, a former DoorDash employee who conspired with Devagiri and others to provide DoorDash's inside information, was separately indicted in 2022 and pleaded guilty in 2024.
