The Nintendo Switch 2 menu description shown in the video reads, 'Lock your system with a PIN to protect against unauthorized access. You will need to enter your PIN to wake your system from sleep mode.'
The original Nintendo Switch also had a 'screen lock' feature, but you could use the device by simply pressing the same button three times. On the other hand, the Nintendo Switch 2 allows you to strengthen security by using a PIN of your choice.
It's unclear whether the PIN length will be adjustable or whether it will just be a standard four-digit PIN, but the original Nintendo Switch couldn't be locked like this unless parental controls were used, so the news site My Nintendo News commented, 'This will be a welcome change for those who want to ensure the security of their console when they're out and about.'
The Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled to be released on June 5, 2025, and ahead of the launch, Nintendo has been revealing system features through the Nintendo Today! app. In addition to PIN codes and battery saving settings, the app also revealed the ability to use the Joy-Con in mouse mode to control the cursor on the home screen.
