Aurora's self-driving system, the Aurora Driver, is equipped with multiple LiDAR sensors that can see 360 degrees and see a distance of 'more than four football fields.'

A truck equipped with this system has begun operating on Interstate 45 between Dallas and Houston, Texas, and has already completed 1,200 miles (about 1,900 km) without a human on board.

A time-lapse video of the car's driving has also been released. The video shows that the car is completely unmanned, maintains a speed of almost 65 miles per hour on the highway, stays in its lane, and keeps a safe distance from other cars even when it gets stuck in traffic on regular roads.
On the day the truck began commercial operation, Aurora CEO Chris Urmson was aboard and enjoyed autonomous driving from inside the vehicle.

Armson, who is also involved with Waymo, a company that develops self-driving cars, said, 'Trucking is a large industry in the United States, but it faces challenges such as an aging driver workforce and high turnover, rising operating costs, and underutilized assets. Self-driving cars could be a solution to the challenges the trucking industry currently faces.'
