How will Apple update Siri in iOS 19?

Apple Intelligence , the personal AI announced at WWDC24 held in June 2024, was scheduled to upgrade Siri. However, Apple has officially acknowledged that the Siri upgrade has been delayed , announcing that it will be released in 2026. 9to5Mac predicts what the delayed 'evolved Siri' will be like based on previous reports.

9to5Mac points out that the fundamental problem with the 'evolved Siri' is that Apple had to rush to prepare for the announcement of iOS 18. In fact, Bloomberg reports that 'Siri in iOS 18 essentially has two brains: one to handle traditional Siri commands like timers and calls, and another to handle more advanced queries. The latter will have access to user data, and is already being used to ensure that users don't get confused if they change their request mid-command. In order to release Apple Intelligence as part of iOS 18, Apple didn't have time to integrate the two systems, so the software isn't running as smoothly as it should.'
Apple wanted to completely rewrite Siri's architecture before the release of iOS 18, but due to lack of time, it seems that they ended up leaving this 'two-part system'. This approach was far from smooth, and engineers suffered a proliferation of bugs that ultimately caused Siri to stop working as intended. Craig Federighi, Apple's senior vice president of software, also expressed concern that Siri was not working as intended.

Therefore, 9to5Mac points out that the 'evolved Siri' that will be released in iOS 19 will be a fundamentally rebuilt architecture. As a result, it is expected that three features that were originally scheduled to be released in iOS 18.4, such as 'the ability to recognize the user's personal context,' 'screen recognition,' and 'in-app action function,' will be available in Siri.
Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, who is well-known for his leaks of Apple-related information, also predicts that the new Siri will be released as follows: 'In iOS 19, Apple plans to merge the two systems and introduce a new Siri architecture. We expect this to be announced as early as June 2025 at WWDC and released as part of iOS 19.4 by spring 2026.'
If this goes ahead, it will finally phase out Siri's architecture, which has been in use for over a decade.
Apple has also replaced Siri's engineering lead with Mike Rockwell, head of Apple Vision Pro development. Rockwell is reportedly replacing many of the Siri development team with members of the Apple Vision Pro software development group. In addition, Rockwell is reportedly working on restructuring the teams related to Siri's voice recognition, understanding, performance, and user experience.
