Google announces end of support for the first and second generation air conditioning management device 'Nest Learning Thermostat'



Google has announced that it will end support for the first and second generation devices, which have been on the market for more than 10 years, in order to provide cutting-edge features for the fourth generation 'Nest Learning Thermostat,' an air conditioning management device announced in 2024.

According to Google, the three models for which support will be ended are the first-generation 'Nest Learning Thermostat' released in 2011, the second-generation 'Nest Learning Thermostat' released in 2012, and the European version of the second-generation 'Nest Learning Thermostat' released in 2014.

Software updates for these devices will end on October 25, 2025, and they will no longer be supported by the Nest or Home apps. Additionally,

the Home/Away Assist and Google Assistant control features will no longer be available.

However, temperature changes, mode changes, schedule functions, settings, etc. will still be available.

Google is planning to announce the fourth-generation 'Nest Learning Thermostat' in August 2024, and is recommending that users who will no longer be supported switch to the new model.

To encourage customers to switch, Nest is offering special offers to eligible users: US users will get $130 off the suggested retail price of $279.99 on the fourth-generation Nest Learning Thermostat, while Canadian users will get $160 off the suggested retail price of $379.99.

European users will also get a 50% discount on the Tado Smart Thermostat X starter kit, which can be used with other smart home devices in the Google Home app. The device retails for 199.99 euros.

Support will continue for third-generation devices released in 2015, the Nest Thermostat E released in 2017, and the Nest Thermostat released in 2020.
