Threads web app officially transitions from Threads.net to Threads.com, with new features added

Meta has announced that it is officially migrating its Threads web app from Threads.net to Threads.com, bringing with it new features and tools like custom feeds, copying and resharing posts, and the ability to create new columns.
New Features for the Threads Web Experience | Meta
Threads is a text-based social networking site that competes with X (formerly Twitter) and is a platform linked to Instagram operated by Meta. Unlike the centralized social networking site X, it is compatible with the decentralized social networking platform ActivityPub and was released in July 2023.
Meta's 'Threads,' a 'Twitter-like competitor app,' is scheduled to be released on July 6th according to the App Store - GIGAZINE

When it was first released, the URL for the web app version of Threads was 'Threads.net' because the 'Threads.com' domain was owned by another company with the same name. However, the company that owned 'Threads.com' was sold to Shopify in June 2024, and Meta acquired the 'Threads.com' domain in September of the same year. After that, 'Threads.com' began to redirect to 'Threads.net'.
Meta announced on April 24, 2025, 'Today, we are transitioning from Threads.net to Threads.com and rolling out updates to improve your desktop experience. Whether you're a creator or a regular Threads user, these improvements will make it even easier to share fresh perspectives and participate in your favorite communities.' From now on, if you type 'Threads.com' into the URL field of your web browser, you will be redirected directly to the Threads home screen. On the other hand, if you type 'Threads.net', you will be redirected to 'Threads.com'.
In addition to this official transition, Meta is also announcing some minor updates to the Threads web app.
For example, users will be able to display custom feeds on the web app just like they would on the mobile app. Also, liked and saved posts will be easily accessible from the main menu. Additionally, the ability to copy Threads posts as images has been added. Meta says this will make it easier to share Threads posts on other apps, such as Instagram.

When visualized, it looks like this.

And now you can add additional feed columns by clicking the new column icon on the right side of the screen.
You can also click the + button in the bottom right to open a new window where you can create a post.

Meta commented, 'We continually release updates to the Threads web app because we recognize it's important to our growing community of creators and the overall Threads experience.'
GIGAZINE also has a Threads account where they post article updates and announcements, so it's useful to follow them.
