The Digital Markets Act (DMA) is a law enacted by the EU together with the Digital Services Act (DSA). It aims to promote fair competition within the EU by defining platform operators that are larger than a certain size as 'gatekeepers' and regulating them.

The 'Digital Markets Act' and 'Digital Services Act' created by the EU to regulate big tech companies such as Apple, Google, and Meta will be bundled together as the 'Digital Services Package' and officially approved - GIGAZINE

Meta and Apple are expected to be fined by the EU for violating the DMA in the week of April 14, 2025, and Meta has already received notice of the fine. However, the committee meeting to approve the payment of the fine against the two companies was postponed.

Sources say that this is a postponement of measures that could provoke the U.S. side while negotiations are being held over the 'Trump tariffs,' which have been suspended for 90 days, and that sanctions will likely be imposed eventually.

An EU spokesperson responded to this matter by saying, 'We are currently working towards adopting a final decision in the short term.'

It is unclear what the alleged DMA violations by Meta and Apple were, how much the fines were expected to be, and when the postponed fines will be imposed.
