According to Google, enforcement of policies requires caution because malicious attackers are constantly changing their tactics to evade detection, but LLM, which once required huge data sets, now works much more efficiently and can distinguish legitimate business from fraud with only a fraction of the information it previously needed.
In particular, in 2024, Google will make large-scale investments and implement more than 50 feature enhancements to ensure efficient and accurate policy enforcement. 97% of pages for which policy enforcement was enforced in 2024 were detected by AI models.
In addition to strengthening enforcement of policies, the AI also improved the company's ability to proactively prevent fraud, with the vast majority of more than 39.2 million bad advertiser accounts being suspended before they could serve harmful ads.
Google is verifying the identity of advertisers to provide transparency about who is behind the ads and to prevent malicious advertisers from returning. The tools used for this verification cover more than 200 countries and regions, and on average, more than 90% of the ads users see on Google are from verified advertisers.
These efforts will result in 5.1 billion ads being stopped in 2024. The most common policy applied was 'ad network abuse' with 793.1 million. Below is the list of the top 15.
