Most of Nintendo's hardware for the US market is manufactured in China, Vietnam, and Cambodia, which will be subject to extremely high tariffs of 145%, 46%, and 49%, respectively, under the new reciprocal tariffs.

In response to the Trump tariffs, Nintendo has reportedly been shipping completed Nintendo Switch 2 consoles from Vietnam to facilities in the United States since January 2025. According to overseas media Bloomberg, Nintendo has concentrated the majority of its Nintendo Switch 2 shipments in the United States, shipping 383,000 Nintendo Switch 2 units from Vietnam in January 2025 and more than 700,000 units in February. The graph below shows the number of hardware units shipped from Vietnam, with game consoles shown in black.

PCMag, an overseas media outlet, said, 'While it's not clear whether only the Nintendo Switch 2 was being shipped, data from Vietnam Customs indicates that Nintendo is stockpiling millions of consoles in time for the Nintendo Switch 2's release on June 5, 2025. This stockpile should allow Nintendo to weather the impact of tariffs without passing the costs on to consumers.'

Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 in the United States were originally scheduled to begin on April 9, 2025, but Nintendo has announced that it will postpone the start date and time of pre-orders due to the implementation of reciprocal tariffs.

On the other hand, President Trump has announced that he will suspend the reciprocal tariff measures for 90 days on April 10, 2025. Bloomberg said, 'Many companies are likely to rush deliveries to the United States to maximize the amount they can ship in this 90-day period,' and Robin Zhu, an analyst at research firm Bernstein, said, 'If the reciprocal tariffs are suspended and the 10% tariff remains as it was, Nintendo will probably keep the price at $450 (about 64,600 yen), the price announced on April 2, 2025.'
