The Himeji specialty 'Eki Soba' that came to the Osaka Kansai Expo is 3,850 yen including tax, and is not just a taste but a special one, the 'Ultimate Kobe Beef Sukiyaki Eki Soba'

At

the Osaka-Kansai Expo , not only can you enjoy cuisines from all over the world, but restaurants operating in Japan are also offering special dishes that show off their skills. Maneki Foods, the maker of Maneki no Eki Soba , a famous Himeji specialty, is releasing a new product called 'The Ultimate Eki Soba, the Strongest and Most Delicious in History,' so I went to try it.

Inside the large roof ring, facing the 'Silent Forest Zone' in the center of the venue, there are three stores lined up: 'Sushiro Future Expo Store,' 'MANEKI FUTURE STUDIO JAPAN,' and 'Rapoppo Farm - Sweet Potatoes, Strawberries, and Apples Farm to the Table.' Maneki's store is in the center.

The menu looks like this.

The style is the same as the stores in Himeji, where you enter the store, order at the register, wait at your seat, and then go to the counter to pick up your order when you are called. However, since the Osaka-Kansai Expo has a completely cashless policy, there were charging machines set up in case your card balance was insufficient.

The store has counter seats and table seats, all of which except for the counter tables are made of cardboard in accordance with the SDGs.

This time, we were served the 'Ultimate Kobe Beef Sukiyaki Eki Soba,' which is said to be the 'Ultimate Eki Soba.' Even the bowl was Wajima-nuri lacquerware, making it feel like this was a special bowl.

First, I took a sip of the soup stock, and the moment it entered my mouth, the symbol '!?' popped out of my head. Eki soba is characterized by the combination of 'Chinese noodles + Japanese soup stock,' and the soup stock is lightly seasoned with a salty taste, but the soup stock of this Eki soba is different, and it feels like you're being hit hard by the umami of seafood. In fact, scallops and clams are added to make it 'Expo specification' soup stock.

The noodles are also different from regular noodles, as they are smooth and chewy, and are firmly entangled with the broth without being overpowered by it. Just the combination of these two makes you feel that 'Ekisoba has been powered up.'

The dish is Kobe beef sukiyaki, which is made with 100g of shoulder loin. The seasoning is sweet and spicy, with a strong sweetness that is characteristic of sukiyaki. When I had Kitsune Eki Soba before, I had the impression that the sweetness of the fried tofu and the slightly salty broth were a contrast and that it was for advanced diners, so I wondered how the sweet sukiyaki would turn out, but the broth, which had a strong shellfish flavor, complemented the sweet and spicy meat, and it was perfect.

Since it's sukiyaki, I'm even happy that it avoids the use of eggs.

Certainly, the 3,850 yen including tax is a fairly high-end menu compared to the 480 yen including tax for the 'Kitsune' or 'Tempura' Eki Soba, but it is true that it is a completely different taste from normal Eki Soba, and is an Eki Soba that I have never eaten before. There are some shops in the large Expo site that offer lower prices, but I thought it might be a good idea to consider it as an option when you want to 'have something special since you've come all the way here.'

We also have a variety of standard bento lunches available.

There were also souvenir sets available, including sweets and dried Eki Soba noodles and soup.

They also have original T-shirts.

By the way, a crowdfunding campaign is being held that offers a reward of a soft drink and a souvenir along with the 'Ultimate Kobe Beef Sukiyaki Eki Soba.' If you are planning to go to the Osaka-Kansai Expo after May 19, 2025 and eat the 'Ultimate Kobe Beef Sukiyaki Eki Soba,' it might be a good idea to get this reward.
