On April 2, 2025, US President Donald Trump announced that he would impose a uniform 10% basic tariff on all imports, and then introduce ' reciprocal tariffs ' that would add tax rates by country and region. As an example, a 24% tariff would be imposed on imports from Japan.

As a result, high-tech industries that manufacture products in China, Taiwan, Singapore, and other countries have been hit hard, and the imposition of these mutual tariffs has caused stock prices for companies such as Apple and NVIDIA to plummet.

Similarly, Micron, which has manufacturing bases in Asia, including China, Taiwan, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore, will also be heavily affected by the reciprocal tariffs. Micron has notified its customers that it will raise prices, saying, 'In consideration of the impact of President Trump's new tariffs, we plan to impose additional charges on some products starting April 9, 2025.'

The price increases will affect products such as memory modules and SSDs , which are used in a number of use cases, including automobiles, laptops and data center servers.

Examples of Micron's customers and suppliers include: Apple, Lenovo, Dell, NVIDIA, and many other high-tech companies that will be affected by Micron's price hikes.

Since semiconductors are not subject to the reciprocal tariffs, Micron says it will not raise prices for its main semiconductor products.

Micron only

notified customers in late March 2025 of price increases due to 'unanticipated increased demand' for its products, with Micron executives saying, 'We intend to pass on these costs to customers in areas affected by the tariffs in the form of price increases.'

Micron is not alone in raising prices. An executive at an Asian NAND module manufacturer criticized the move, saying, 'If our American customers cannot accept the price increase, we cannot ship our products. It is absurd that we should be held responsible for a decision made by the U.S. government. With such a tax rate, no company can say, 'We will bear the burden.''
