According to Garman, the AirPods' real-time translation feature will be available as part of an AirPods firmware update scheduled for the second half of 2025, and will be available in conjunction with iOS 19, which is expected to be released in the fall.
'This will create a Star Trek-like experience for AirPods users,' Garman said. 'For example, when an English speaker hears someone speaking Spanish, the iPhone will translate that conversation and relay it to the user's AirPods in English, while the English speaker's words will be translated into Spanish and played on the iPhone.'
iOS 19 is reportedly undergoing a major redesign for the first time in over 10 years, and the real-time translation feature may be one of the highlights of this overhaul.
