The main feature of the iPhone 16e is that it is equipped with the same A18 generation SoC as the iPhone 16. Therefore, it also supports Apple Intelligence, which is scheduled to be available in Japan from April 2025. However, although it has the same 'A18' as the iPhone 16, the A18 in the iPhone 16e has one less GPU core, making it a 4-core configuration.
Also, since '8GB or more RAM' is one of the minimum hardware requirements for Apple Intelligence, it is likely that the iPhone 16e will also have 8GB or more RAM.
Another major feature of the iPhone 16e is that it is equipped with Apple's first in-house 5G modem chip, the C1. Previous iPhones were equipped with Qualcomm 5G modem chips, but the iPhone 16e is the first Apple device to be equipped with its own 5G modem chip. According to Apple, the C1 is highly power efficient, which contributes to extending the battery life of the iPhone 16e.
The supported wireless communication methods are as follows: It covers most of the low-end 5G communication range, the same as the iPhone 16, but even the US model does not support mmWave.
The rear camera is a single 48MP wide-angle camera, which is not suitable for macro or aerial photography.
The front camera is built into a notch, not a Dynamic Island like the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro.
The charging port is USB-C, not Lightning. It does not support MagSafe, so you cannot use MagSafe accessories.
The iPhone 16e is available in three models, 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB, depending on the storage capacity. The body comes in two colors, white and black. The price is 99,800 yen (tax included) for the 128GB model, 114,800 yen (tax included) for the 256GB model, and 144,800 yen (tax included) for the 512GB model.
Reservations for the iPhone 16e will be available from Thursday, February 20, 2025, and in-store sales will begin on Friday, February 28, 2025.
