I went to see the statue of Kabosu, the world's most famous Shiba Inu dog and the inspiration behind the internet meme 'Doge'

The Shiba Inu 'Doge', which is also used as a net meme in the design of the virtual currency ' Dogecoin ', originally gained popularity due to a photo of the Shiba Inu 'Kabosu' posted on a blog. Kabosu passed away in 2024, but a monument including a statue of Kabosu has been installed at 'Sakura Furusato Hiroba' in Sakura City, Chiba Prefecture, where she often went for walks, so I went to see her.

Sakura Furusato Square is located almost halfway between Keisei Usui Station and Keisei Sakura Station, and it takes about 30 minutes on foot from Usui Station and 40 minutes from Sakura Station. From Keisei Sakura Station, you can take a bus. If you take the Uchigo route of

the Sakura City Community Bus that departs from the north exit of the station, you can reach the 'Furusato Hiroba' bus stop in 7 minutes. The fare is 200 yen for adults, payable upon boarding, and transportation IC cards can also be used.

The 'Furusato Hiroba' bus stop is located right in front of the park's administration building, Saranka. Opposite is the '

Marche Kashima Farmers Market .'

It features a large windmill.

You can also go up to the second floor to view the windmill.

Because it was windy that day, the sails were not open. There is a Kabosu-chan monument at the apex of the triangular green space beyond the windows of this windmill.
