DeepSeek-R1, developed by DeepSeek, has been reported to have the same performance as OpenAI's inference model 'o1' while requiring only 4% of the training cost. DeepSeek-R1 is open source under the MIT license and can be used commercially or modified. Therefore, DeepSeek-R1 has had a major impact on the AI industry, and NVIDIA's stock price temporarilyplummeted by about 17% due to concerns about the rise of Chinese-made AI.
Why is DeepSeek causing such a fuss and what's so great about it?

Microsoft has announced that it will introduce DeepSeek R1 to its AI development integration platform, Azure AI Foundry. Microsoft said, 'As we continue to expand the Azure AI Foundry model catalog, we look forward to seeing how developers and businesses use AI. DeepSeek-R1 can provide a transformative experience for developers tackling real-world challenges.'
According to Microsoft, in the future users will be able to run some models of DeepSeek-R1 on Copilot+ PC, a PC that can run AI locally.
In addition, the GitHub model also introduces DeepSeek-R1, which GitHub says is 'a 671B parameter AI model designed to enhance deep learning, natural language processing, and computer vision capabilities. It offers a wide range of possibilities, provides rapid insights, and allows users to explore the potential of AI in a variety of applications.'

Meanwhile, DeepSeek-R1 is under investigation due to allegations that it was trained using data extracted from OpenAI's systems. The U.S. Navy has also banned the use of DeepSeek's AI due to security and ethical concerns.

However, Microsoft said, 'As part of Azure AI Foundry, DeepSeek-R1 is highly reliable and enables enterprises to seamlessly integrate advanced AI while meeting security and responsible AI commitments, all backed by Microsoft's reliability and innovation.' 'DeepSeek-R1 has undergone a rigorous red team safety assessment, including automated evaluation of model behavior and extensive security reviews to mitigate potential risks. Azure AI Foundry provides a secure, compliant and responsible environment for enterprises to confidently deploy AI solutions.'
