Review: Is the Sony α1 II mirrorless camera suitable for handheld Vlogging?

The Sony mirrorless camera '

α1 II ' is equipped with the highest performance in-body image stabilization function in the history of the α series, and it is said that it can record videos with reduced blur even when shooting while walking. I actually took the α1 II outside and checked the amount of blur when shooting a video while walking.

The α1 II is equipped with a back-illuminated full-size image sensor and an AI processing unit, and has functions such as '50.1 megapixel high-resolution shooting,' 'high-speed continuous shooting at 30 frames per second,' 'automatic recognition and tracking AF of people and trains,' and 'high-sensitivity shooting with reduced noise.' The following article explains in detail what kind of photos can be taken with the α1 II.

The α1 II is equipped with an advanced 5-axis optical in-body image stabilization function with 8.5 stops in the center and 7.0 stops on the periphery. In addition, it is equipped with an electronic image stabilization function that uses a gyro sensor and a stabilization algorithm. When shooting video, you can choose from three image stabilization modes: 'Standard,' 'Active,' and 'Dynamic Active.' Active is for 'shooting video while walking,' and Dynamic Active is for 'shooting video while jogging.'

To test the image stabilization effectiveness of various image stabilization modes, we attached the Sony zoom lens

FE 28-70mm F2 GM to the α1 II and took it outside.

First, here is a video I took while walking with the image stabilization mode set to standard. Every step I took was a shaky one. The lens focal length was 28mm, and the image quality was recorded at 4K and 60fps.

When active, blurring was significantly reduced.

Here's the result of shooting with the Dynamic Active. The difference with the Active is small.

Next, I tried taking some photos while walking along the road in front of the station at night. The standard setting was very blurry.

Switching to active reduces blurring, but occasionally the entire frame will appear to shift in a jerky manner.

Dynamic Active enabled me to capture smooth video with minimal blur.

By the way, the α1 II can shoot videos at up to 8K and 30fps, and in 4K it can shoot at up to 120fps. It also supports HDMI output, and the screen during shooting can be output at up to 8K.

The α1 II is available at electronics retailers and online shops, and at the time of writing, it is sold at Sony Store for 990,000 yen (tax included) and at Camera no Kitamura Rakuten Ichiba store for 899,174 yen (tax included). However, the delivery date has not yet been decided.
