Waymo , a self-driving car development company under Alphabet, operates a fully self-driving robot taxi business in Phoenix, Arizona, San Francisco, California, and Los Angeles. On May 10, 2024, Waymo announced that it was 'performing 50,000 trips per week in three major cities.'

Waymo launched its fully self-driving taxi service in Phoenix in 2020 and has since steadily expanded the areas where it is available, launching service in San Francisco in August 2021 and in parts of Los Angeles and on Bay Area highways in March 2024.

Waymo, which announced that it now operates 50,000 transportation operations per week, reported in March 2024 that the number of users in the four cities where it provides its service, including Austin, Texas, where it is currently conducting operational tests, has exceeded 1 million.
In its announcement, Waymo reported, 'We know our vehicles improve road safety for all road users, including cyclists, pedestrians, and other motorists. And all of our robotaxis are powered by renewable energy, helping cities in which we operate achieve their sustainability goals.'
