'Animal Shogi Anywhere' is a compact and easy-to-carry version of Animal Shogi that can be enjoyed by both children and adults.

'

Animal Shogi ' is a board game based on shogi, in which four types of pieces - lion, elephant, giraffe, and chick - are arranged on a 3x4 board. The Animal Shogi has become more compact and easier to carry, and can be played easily on the go. I was given a gift of ' Animal Shogi Anywhere ,' so I tried to see what kind of package it was in.

The package of 'Animal Chess Anywhere' features an elephant, a chick, a chicken, a lion, and a giraffe. The box is 3cm high, 11cm wide, and 18cm long.

It is slightly smaller than the hardcover book (left) and slightly larger than the paperback book (right).

This is what it looks like when you hold it in your hand. It's small enough to easily carry around in a bag.

Weight: 204g.

When I opened the box, I found a drawstring bag for carrying the game, a desiccant, various pamphlets, a guide on how to play, the game board, and the pieces inside.

When you open the folded game board, it looks like this. Of the 3x4 squares, the three horizontal columns are assigned the letters 'A, B, C,' and the four vertical rows are assigned the numbers '1, 2, 3, 4.'

This makes it possible to refer to each square with a combination of letters and numbers, such as 'A1' and 'B2.'

You and your opponent each use one of four types of pieces: chick, elephant, giraffe, and lion, for a total of eight pieces.

In addition, just like in shogi, chicks can be

promoted , so their reverse side shows a chicken.

It's easy to play. Spread out the folded game board, and place the three squares (the letters A, B, and C) facing you and your opponent, arranging the animals as shown in the picture. Specifically, place the lions on 'B1' and 'B4,' the elephants on 'C1' and 'A4,' the giraffes on 'A1' and 'C4,' and the chicks on 'B2' and 'B3.'

Then, players play rock-paper-scissors to decide who will go first and who will go second, and each animal takes turns moving once. Animals move one square at a time, and the direction they can move is indicated by a dot in the corner of the piece. Chicks can move one square forward, elephants can move one square diagonally, lions can move one square in all directions, and giraffes can move one square vertically or horizontally.

You can capture your opponent's animal by moving your animal onto a space where your opponent's animal is. If the animal you capture is a lion, you win, but if it's anything else, you keep it as your ally.

Once you have caught an animal, you can place it on an empty space on the board during your turn.

When a chick reaches the first level of the opponent, it evolves into a chicken. Chickens can move one space in all directions except diagonally backwards.

In the end, the player who catches the opponent's lion wins. It may seem simple because there are only a few pieces and squares, but in reality, it's not that easy to win, and you have to think carefully to win. When you actually play, you'll find that it's a pretty deep game that can be enjoyed by both children and adults.

If you put the board and pieces into the drawstring bag, it can be carried even more compactly than the box.
