Review of the world's first portable Bluetooth speaker with spatial audio: Anker Soundcore Motion X600

The world's first portable Bluetooth speaker compatible with spatial audio, the Soundcore Motion X600 , was released on May 29, 2023 by Soundcore, an audio equipment brand of home appliance manufacturer Anker. We actually tried out the Soundcore Motion X600, the flagship model of portable Bluetooth speakers that uses Anker's proprietary algorithm and five drivers to achieve surround sound that seems to pour in from 360 degrees.

The Soundcore Motion X600 package looks like this.

When you open the inner box, you will see the main unit wrapped in vinyl.

Under the device were a quick start guide, a warranty card, and a USB-C cable for charging.

This is the body of the Soundcore Motion X600. It comes in three colors: space gray, green, and blue, and the one I'm reviewing this time is space gray.
The size of the Soundcore Motion X600 is 31.1 cm wide x 17.1 cm deep x 8.1 cm high, and it looks like this when lined up with the iPhone 12 mini, which has a long side of 131.5 mm. The front of the speaker grill is made of metal and has a matte texture, as it 'uses 3D metal mesh to create a luxurious feel.'

Back. The Soundcore Motion X600 has a fixed handle, making it easy to carry.

On the bottom left of the back, there is a highly sealed rubber cover. Under the cover, there is a USB-C port for charging and input, and a 3.5mm audio terminal for audio input. The playback time with the built-in battery is about 12 hours, and up to 9 hours can be played with the spatial audio function and BassUP function turned on. The time required to fully charge the battery is nominally about 6 hours.

Here's a photo of the top. The Soundcore brand logo is on the handle.

The control panel on the top of the unit looks like this. There is a speaker in the center, and control buttons on the left and right. From the left, the control buttons are the power button, Bluetooth button, spatial audio button, BassUp button, volume down button, play/pause button, and volume up button.

There were four rubber feet on the bottom. Looking closely, I could see that the rubber feet had two protrusions, which seemed to have been designed to minimize the footprint of the Soundcore Motion X600 on the floor.

The actual weight is 1.95kg. It may be relatively large and heavy for a portable Bluetooth speaker.

It's easy to use, just press the power button on the far left of the top panel to turn it on. If it's not linked to a device, it will automatically enter Bluetooth pairing mode.

When I looked at the iPhone's Bluetooth settings screen, the Soundcore Motion X600 was recognized, so I tapped it. The connection was automatically completed.

The following movie shows the Soundcore Motion X600 being started and the actual music being played. It's hard to tell because it was recorded with the camera's microphone, but when I played it in a room of about 20 tatami mats, it certainly seemed like the sound was coming from all sides, and the bass seemed to resonate firmly with my body. With a 50W speaker output and a frequency range of 50Hz to 40kHz, it's not the 'power-deficient, thin sound' that is common with portable speakers, but rather a stable sound anywhere in the room. In the movie, the spatial audio button and BassUp button are switched on and off, but when the spatial audio button is switched, the difference is clearly visible in the sound of the movie.
The Soundcore Motion X600 allows you to adjust the equalizer by connecting it to the official Soundcore app.

This time I tried the iOS version. Open the official app distribution page on the App Store and tap 'Get.'

When you install and launch the app, the terms of use and privacy policy will be displayed, so tap 'Agree and continue'.

To use the official app, you need to register an account. Since I'm registering with my Apple account this time, I selected 'Log in with Apple.'

A tutorial will be displayed, so tap 'Skip' in the upper right.

You will be asked to use Bluetooth, so tap 'OK'.

Select the leftmost icon in the bottom menu and tap 'Add device.'

Tap 'Headphone, Speaker, and Frames.'

If the Soundcore Motion X600 is connected to your iPhone via Bluetooth, 'Motion X600' will be displayed, so tap it.

Then, the 'Motion X600' management screen was displayed. To edit the equalizer, tap 'Equalizer' at the bottom of the screen.

The equalizer has five presets. The default settings are as follows:

Bass Enhancement

voice

Treble Boost

balance

You can edit the equalizer yourself by tapping 'Custom' at the bottom of the screen.

Return to the management screen and tap the gear icon in the upper right corner to check the firmware, etc.

The firmware confirmation screen allowed you to turn voice prompts on and off, adjust button brightness, auto power off, and update the firmware.

The Soundcore Motion X600 is a portable Bluetooth speaker that can be carried around, but it is said to be the world's first speaker that supports spatial audio, so I got the impression that its true value is best when used indoors. Not only is the sound quality good, but the sound pressure is also solid, so you can enjoy music even in a large living room. It is easy to connect, and the app makes it easy to adjust the equalizer, which is a nice feature. Both the speaker and the app have a simple UI and are easy to use, so even beginners can easily use it.
Anker's Soundcore Motion X600 is available on Amazon.co.jp and can be purchased for 19,900 yen including tax at the time of writing. I felt that this sound quality and ease of use were quite a bargain at this price.
