According to Turkish media outlet Hurriyet Daily News , the boy hugged and kissed his 13-year-old girlfriend on school grounds. A classmate of the girl filmed the two of them kissing, and after sharing the video with friends, the school discovered the couple's tryst. The boy was arrested by police.
The boy who kissed was not the only one charged; the girl who filmed the couple kissing was charged with 'producing an inappropriate video featuring a child,' and four classmates who shared the video were also charged with 'sharing an inappropriate video featuring a child.'

At the trial held on September 28, 2018, at the Antalya 6th Serious Crimes Court in southern Turkey, the girl who filmed the movie and five of her classmates who shared it were acquitted, but the boy who kissed her was sentenced to four years and six months in prison for 'sexually assaulting a teenage girl.'
The boy's lawyer said, 'We emphasized that the 16-year-old boy's actions were simply a kiss driven by adolescent impulse and that no punishment was necessary, but the prosecutor and judge did not take our argument into consideration.' He added, 'What started as a little play between a boy and a girl turned into a serious incident and the matter escalated to the criminal court.'
