'Google Arts & Culture,' which allows you to see artworks from around the world for free, uses machine learning to support various search methods

' Arts & Culture ' is a gallery app released by Google in 2015 that brings together artworks from around the world. It allows users to search for artworks in a variety of ways, including by era, artist, and even color scale, making it easy to find what they're looking for even if they don't know the name of the work. The search function on Arts & Culture is constantly evolving, with the addition of the ability to search for '

portraits that resemble your own face ' in January 2018. The Google Arts & Culture Lab, the developer of the app, has released a fascinating video explaining the experiments they've undertaken so far.

Putting Machine Learning to work for culture #GoogleArts - YouTube

The experiment being conducted in the Google Arts & Culture lab is 'Can we use the latest technology to explore hundreds of years of artwork?'

Experiment: Identifying artworks from the Museum of Modern Art in New York using machine learning

The project started with the question, 'Is there anything we can do with machine learning?'

The Museum of Modern Art in New York has a collection of photos from exhibitions dating back to the 1930s, but the information about the artworks featured in the exhibitions was missing. Using machine learning, the researchers analyzed the photos and successfully identified the artworks depicted.

Experiment: Art Selfie

'Art Selfie' connects people and artworks in a very personal way. When you take a selfie, a machine learning algorithm...

The app will search for your lookalike among tens of thousands of artworks, and has had a global impact, with tens of millions of selfies already being taken and matched with artworks.

Experiment: Life Tag

LIFE magazine is an iconic publication in history.

Over 4 million photos...

The recognition algorithm replaces it with a tag.

'Life Tag' is an attempt to compile the archived magazine LIFE into an easy-to-explore, interactive encyclopedia.

Experiment: Art Palette

Art Palette is an attempt to play with color. By creating a palette with several colors, you can search for works that match that palette. Art Palette is expected to inspire designers.

The goal of Google Arts & Culture is to create new ways to explore art and culture, and to explore how new technology can be applied to better support artists, museums, and audiences.
