Police have arrested a 17-year-old boy for allegedly hacking into the official website of Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena and leaving a message requesting the postponement of the GCE A-level exams. The boy was arrested on Monday under the Computer Crimes Act, and was sentenced to three years in prison and fined 300,000 Sri Lankan rupees (approximately 210,000 yen).
During the hacking, the young man deleted all data from the president's website and instead posted a message calling for the postponement of the GCE-A level exams or the president's resignation.

Police said: 'We traced the hacking trail to the young man's home in Kadagana (a town 100km east of Colombo ), Sri Lanka's largest city. The attack on the president's website has rendered it inaccessible until the weekend.'
Sri Lanka has had similar hacking incidents in the past, and the Computer Crimes Act was enacted in 2007 to combat such computer crimes. The presidential website was restored on Monday, the first day of the week, and the young man was arrested. This is apparently the first time a young man has been arrested under the Computer Crimes Act.
