Student years are a great time to prepare and invest in your dreams. Kazuya Masumoto, director and animation producer at TRIGGER, the studio behind the anime series ' Kill la Kill ,' has published two articles on ' The Skills Necessary for an Animator ' and ' What to Acquire as a Student as an Animator or Production Manager ' on Twitter, which have sparked a lot of buzz.

TRIGGER producer Masumoto, known for his work on Kill la Kill, posted a list on Facebook of what students aiming to become production/animators should do while at a certain school during a company information session, which I thought was very good, so with his permission I'd like to share it here. pic.twitter.com/RXqarxHOM2

◆Skills required as an animator
1. Copying ability

by
To be able to draw a character that looks similar, you first need to be able to copy the picture accurately.
2: Drawing ability

by
You also need the ability to draw three-dimensional objects and people in three dimensions, taking into account their proportions and shadows.
3: Sketch

by
To be able to draw a layout, you need to be able to place people in a three-dimensional space, be able to express spatial images (such as melancholy, tension, or relaxation), and have a concept of camera work and lens effects. For this, sketching is important.
4: You can draw anything

by balt-arts
You should be able to draw anyone, including babies, children, adults, uncles, aunts, etc. You should also be able to draw real-life objects such as cars, motorcycles, and animals, as well as effects such as water, fire, wind, and rain, and imaginary objects such as dragons, wizards, and robots.
So what should you actually do to acquire these skills? Here are four things you should do while you are a student and have the time.
◆What to do as an animator during your student days
1: Watch a live-action movie

by
Since everyone in the industry watches and studies movies, I recommend watching over 100 live-action movies that you like. This will also help you study layout and camerawork.
2: Create four or more works

by
It doesn't matter if the piece takes 3 minutes, 10 minutes, or 30 minutes. The important thing is to finish it.
3. Make friends

by
Even after 10 years, your classmates are still the same. Your friends will help you out.
4. Just draw

by
When you start working, you will need to draw for at least 8 hours a day. As a student, you should draw for at least 6 hours a day. Your drawing ability is proportional to the amount of pencils you use.
There is also a list of things that students who want to work as a production assistant rather than an animator should do while they are in school. In addition to the things 1 to 3 that students should do as an animator, the following three items are also important for production assistants.
◆What to do as a production manager while you're a student
1: Host an event

by
Whether it's a school festival or a birthday party, it's important to have the experience of gathering everyone's opinions and making them a reality. If you're looking for a part-time job, it's best to work in the customer service industry.
2. Talk to lots of people

by
Once you enter the industry, it's normal to work with people 10 or 20 years older than you. To avoid feeling intimidated, make sure you're able to converse casually with people at your part-time job or with your teachers.
3. Don't dismiss things easily

by Meagan
There is a reason for everything, so get into the habit of carefully considering other people's arguments and how things came about. The habit of easily denying things will stop you from thinking.
